They're here!

The Amazing Grace DVDs--all 880 pounds of them--arrived just in time for VBS this week at GBC (that explains some of the "different" attire of some of the young people in the pic; they are helping to depict Pilgrim's Progress).

Though we have still not reached our goal of $20,000, we are well on our way (with a sizable portion of the $3000 in matching gifts still available). Today many of our young people spent hours preparing mailing envelopes that will be used to mail the DVDs. I will let you know when they actually start being distributed.

I have been very encouraged by the number of people who have contacted me indicating that they are praying for this project. Let's join together in asking the Lord to use the teaching from His Word and insights from church history to encourage Baptist pastors and churches throughout the state of Florida.

Dear Pastor Ascol,

I greatly appreciate your efforts. My father attends an SBC church in FL (Central Baptist in Cross City, FL, pastored by David Downing), and his pastor gave him a copy of Vines sermon. His exact words were, "it was great! I listened to it two times and am getting ready to listen to it again!"

Anyway, while I appreciate the efforts with the DVD, it would sure be nice to have a point by point rebuttal of Vine's sermon to accompany the care package. Maybe someone would be willing to put that together in MP3 format, and if possible, it could be copied to a CD to go along with the Amazing Grace DVD. Actually, I know James White did a series of critiques on it on the Dividing Line. Maybe a deal could be worked out with James along these lines? If not an audio, possibly something in writing??? Anyway, just some ideas.

I wrote a brief critique of the sermon when he first preached it last year. You can read it here:

Pray for the DVDs as the hit the mail this week.

Hi Tom,

Yes, I saw your was very good :-)

I have prayed for the DVD project, and as I thought more about it, that was when the idea came to maybe include something with the DVD that would be a point by point rebuttal of Vines' sermon. But, I certainly understand the impracticalites of that, particularly in terms of time and expense.

If I may make a suggestion, If you intend on including a brief note explaining the DVD, maybe you could include a link to your rebuttal of Vines' sermon, and any other links that you think are appropriate, such as to Pastor Roy Hargrave's open letter (??). Anyway, just an idea. I will continue to pray for you, the founders, and the DVD project.
