One: At first glance doesn’t it appear that God’s judgment of Uzzah was overly harsh? Note 6:7. Why is this so?

Two: Can you think of any other instances in Scripture where a similar thing happened? Hint: Don’t overlook the New Testament (Acts).

Central Thought

In moving the ark, David clearly violated God’s instructions – Exodus 25:12-15. How could this have happened? Note two possible answers:

• David was ignorant of God’s laws.

• David had become too familiar with holy things.

Uzzah was likewise guilty before God:

• He had a very casual attitude toward that which is holy.

• He directly violated God’s command through ignorance or rebellion (Numbers 4:15).
